First week done, time to reflect...

5:00pm

Libby and I had a fantastic first week interning at Remy in Beacon Hill! We started off the week taking photos and creating content for Remys’ Instagram and website! We learned about how Remy chooses what pieces/brands to sell, and did research into how Remy can find a way to sell new but last season inventory. We found that there are lots of online websites/store fronts that take old inventory from clothing stores and resell the items for a discounted price, websites such as: TheRealReal, Shopify, Lyst, Vestiaire Collective. However, one of the unique aspects about Remy’s store is that all of her pieces are unique and normally are not bought in large quantities which makes it challenging to resell. Remy has the idea of turning an old, unused building in Nantucket into a place where she, along with other stores similar to hers in Nantucket, can sell their old inventory, collectively, on a more regular basis. We took trips to local boutiques and consignment shops to ask for their professional opinions about consigning and retailing used items, and ran the store for experience from start to finish!

The most exciting part for me, was just beginning the process of learning retail and being able to get the inside scoop from so many successful women in business. This is a passion Libby and I both have, and it was so rewarding to be able to experience it all together. In the next week, I am looking forward to learning more of what it means to be a business-owner with two store locations, how to market products, making sales, and visiting the Nantucket store!

Libby and I have a lot of time into this project, in total about 40.5 hours, and we can’t wait for the second week! On Tuesday, we will take the Ferry to Nantucket to meet up with Remy, visit the store, help organize and prepare for the summer season, as well as get content for their second set of customers on the Island! By the end of this week, I feel confident that Libby and I will have a solid understanding of what we set out to accomplish, and be able to return back to Proctor and share our experience at Express Fest, as well as the entire Proctor community!
