Day 4 - Experiencing the buying process

9:00pm

Libby and I had another productive day for our senior project. We took the train into Boston at around noon, arriving at Remy closer to 1pm. There we learned more about how to run the store, greet customers, restock inventory, and more. Remy taught us how to find sizes of clothing items in the storage area, because she only has one or two sizes that she keeps on the floor of each item. We also learned how to fold certain items based on the material to make sure they don’t get wrinkled, and also refold items once people pick them up to look at. After about an hour organizing the store, and helping customers, we began to ask Remy questions about how she chooses which pieces to sell and the process she goes through to purchase a line of clothing from a brand. It was really interesting to learn about how Remy chooses the brands she sells, and the ways she gets connected with the retailers whether it be in person, online, or through her Instagram. Remy then had Libby and I go over to the Westin Hotel, where there was a sales representative she knew who was there representing the jean brand 7 For All ManKind. Remy sells their jeans in her store, so she wanted Libby and I to go over there as her associates, look at their new line, and take photos of pieces we thought she might want to order in her next shipment. We felt very grateful to be included in this process, because we both want to learn more about the merchandising/buying aspect of owning a boutique. In total, Libby and I worked 6 hours today.
